Apple introduced the iPhone 16 series last week and launched the pre-order process. Some users who have started receiving the phones have observed an increased level of repairability. Apple claims that iPhone 16 is “more repairable than ever”.
iPhone 16 series makes the repair process easier
With the iPhone 16 series, Apple is introducing important innovations to improve the repairability of devices. Early reviewers noted that changes to the phone’s design have made the repair process easier.
One of the most notable changes is the use of a low-voltage adhesive that makes it easier to remove components. This allows technicians to loosen the adhesive with a low-voltage current. This makes it more practical to replace the battery and other parts.
Important modules such as the LiDAR sensor and TrueDepth camera can also be replaced independently. These modules feature a modular design instead of the surface-mounted chips used in previous iPhones.
Alongside the hardware changes, Apple is also introducing a new Repair Assistant software. This software automatically installs the necessary calibrations when a part is replaced. This gives both technical services and users the opportunity to check whether the repair has been done correctly.
The tech giant said it will make its product designs more sustainable by 2030. Therefore, it aims to increase the repairability of iPhones even after they are released.
